Cut out these things once per week and save:

1 bag potato chips, $2 per bag; saves $104 per year
6-pack soda, $2 per 6-pack; saves $104 per year
Dinner out at $30; saves $1,560 per year
Pizza-delivered plus tip -- $20; saves $1,040 per year
Boxed fruit rolls, 1 box $2.50; saves $130 per year

Cut out one of these things per day and save:

1 liter soda purchased at convenience store $1; saves $365 per year
1 liter bottled water $1.25; saves $456.25 per year
1 cup juice per person for a family of four equals $1.50; saves $547.50 per year
Reducing meat 1.5 pounds at $2.50 lb. two nights per week saves, $390 per year
Lunch out -- $4 per person, 20 days per month saves $960 year

By themselves, these efforts may seem inconsequential -- but they add up in a big way.

  • If you're a fan of coupons, remember this: It's not what you save, it's what you spend. If you save 30 cents on something you wouldn't ordinarily buy anyway, you haven't really saved anything.
  • A typical fruit item is significantly larger than one serving. Most people would be just as happy eating a small apple as eating a large one -- so buy smaller fruits! You will save money
