The Benefits of Father-Toddler Alone Time By Teri Brown
As long as you have the equipment you need, such as a stroller, diaper bag, etc., taking your toddler out in public is pretty easy. Time spent exploring the neighborhood, the local parks or even the grocery store represents some unique opportunities for interaction.
"Our children learn more about us by watching and listening," says Dorsey. "Since we are their first teachers, let's give them plenty of opportunity to see the world through our eyes while we get a chance to see the world through theirs."
Tristan Davies from Springfield, Mo., has become an expert at heading out alone with his 3-year-old son. "Time alone with Eli helps boost my self-confidence," says Davies. "Raising a child keeps my wife and I so busy, I sometimes feel like there's no way one parent could do it alone. Doing things outside the home helps me get over that. Even if we don't go to a new place, there are always challenges and decisions to make about how to play with other kids, how to answer new questions and how to work through minor crises. I learn that I can find a solution that might not have been obvious. I also learn that even if we can't fix it, we can stll get along."
