Halloween Spooktacular
Party Ideas That Won't Make You Batty! By Lori Bonner
This suspenseful twist on hide-and-seek is best played in a dimly lit area. One person is chosen as IT. IT waits while the other players hide. Once a player is hidden he must remain in his same hiding spot until found. IT should groan, growl, drag his feet or make other scary noises as he searches for the hiding players. As IT approaches the hiding players, who are trapped, their suspense builds to an almost excruciating level. As IT finds the players, they join him in the search for the remaining guests.
Pumpkin "Carving" Contest
The best part of this drawing game is that you don't have to scoop out those yucky, slimy seeds. Provide each guest with an orange piece of construction paper and a pencil, pen or black crayon. Turn off the lights (or have the guests shut their eyes). Have the guests draw a pumpkin, complete with stem, without peeking. Then have the guests (still no peeking) draw a face on the pumpkin. Turn on the lights and admire the lovely jack-o-lanterns. You can award a prize to each contestant for added fun. For older children (and adults) make the game more challenging by having them draw four pumpkins sitting on a fence or by adding other Halloween-themed items to their picture.
