Baby Food From Scratch

Holiday and Year-round Recipes Made Easy

One of the best parts about making homemade baby food is the leftovers. One pound of carrots can make more than 20 servings of baby food, which can be frozen for up to three months. Use ice cube trays to freeze baby food purees into 1-ounce servings. After frozen, transfer them to plastic bags labeled with the contents and date. When you're in a bind for time, simply defrost a few cubes in the refrigerator or under hot water, and you've got a nutritious meal in minutes!

This method of storing leftovers also allows you to create new and interesting combinations of meals. For example, you could combine fruit cubes with meat cubes or put together a few different vegetable cubes for a mxed veggie platter. Combining cubes will also help your child eat some of his less-favorite foods. For example, combining two apple cubes with a green bean cube helps get the vegetable down without a hassle.

So what are you waiting for? Making your own baby food is a simple, beneficial and gratifying experience. Try it tonight – you may get hooked!
