Brain Builders
Stimulating Activities for Your 6-month-old Baby
By Tammy Morey
When looking for books to read to Baby, choose those made from cardboard that have bold graphics and textures. This will grab her attention visually but also strengthen her eye muscles and stimulate her by allowing her to touch the textures. Select books with short sentences and bold, but basic, illustrations.
Homemade books are also wonderful. They can be as easy as collecting family photographs to fill a small album. Another simple idea is to fill an album or blank book with pictures from magazines, greeting cards and post cards. You can also use construction paper or tie cardboard pieces together to make a book. This is a great idea because you can change the pictures easily whenever you want. You can take Baby for a nature walk, identifying leaves, birds and animals, and then when you go home, you can cut out similar objects and continue the walk theme by putting them in your changeable baby book. Personalized albums with photographs of Mom and Dad are another great idea, particularly when you use a babysitter.

Thank you for a great article. I went on to read everthing pertaining to babies in their 1st year. You've given me such good ideas to communicate to my 7month old niece.
