Bouncing, bouncing on my knee
Bouncing, bouncing on my knee
Bouncing, bouncing on my knee
Just Baby and me.

I'll swing you high and swing you low
I'll hold you close, and I won't let go.

Repeat several times

Sit comfortably in a chair, and hold Baby under her arms so that your hands are around her chest. Baby should be standing up on your knees, facing you (so she can see your face) or facing outward (if there are other people she can see). By lifting your heels up and down off the floor, you will gently bounce her up and down (this is also a great workout for your calves).

When you sing "I'll swing you high," you lift her up and tilt her from side to side in the air, and then lower her back to her standing position on your knees (this is a great workout for your shoulders).

Brain-building skills: balance, listening, strengthens her core muscles (for sitting up), builds her large muscle group (thighs and hamstrings, which she uses to pull herself up and to stand) and anticipation and excitement.

Here We Go
Are you ready to stand today? Here we go on our way!
One,
Two,
Three.

Sit down on the floor and lay Baby on her back facing you. Grasp her hands in your hands (thumb grip), and start counting slowly, drawing the sound of the numbers out very deliberately and slowly. Make sure you never let go of her hands. On three, pull her into the standing position. Counting backward, slowly sit her back down on the floor.

Brain-building skills: builds large muscle groups, pulling and standing up, anticipation and excitement and counting.

Thank you for a great article. I went on to read everthing pertaining to babies in their 1st year. You've given me such good ideas to communicate to my 7month old niece.
