Brain Builders
Stimulating Activities for Your 6-month-old Baby
By Tammy Morey
All around the cobbler's bench
The monkey chased Baby (say your baby's name)
The monkey thought it was all in sport
Pop! Goes Baby (say your baby's name).
Hold Baby in your arms, facing you, and move around the room singing, "Pop goes Baby." When you say the word "pop," raise her high in the air and then bring her to you for a kiss.
Brain-building skills: balance, strengthens core muscles, anticipation and excitement, visual tracking (as you move her around in the air, she will be watching your face closely. Your expressions will be where she takes her queue for reactions, so remember to have fun!) By combining movement with music, you will be stimulating both sides of her brain.

Seven little, eight little, nine little babies,
Ten little babies more.
Ten little, nine little, eight little babies,
Seven little, six little, five little babies,
Four little, three little, two little babies,
One little baby more.
While sitting on the floor with your baby sitting on the floor facing you, blow a lot of bubbles. Start singing the song and clapping to the beat while popping the bubbles by clapping them. You can add olfactory stimulation by simply adding peppermint extract to the bubble solution. Repeat the process several times, and help her mimic your actions.
Brain-building skills: fine motor skills, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, olfactory stimulation, cause and effect, visual development, rhythm and vocabulary.

Thank you for a great article. I went on to read everthing pertaining to babies in their 1st year. You've given me such good ideas to communicate to my 7month old niece.
