Brain Builders
Stimulating Activities for Your 8-month-old Baby
By Tammy Morey
Around her 8-month birthday you may also notice that she can tell the differences between people she knows and those she does not. She will be more relaxed with you and other family members and friends, but she will begin to act differently, even showing fear, toward strangers. She may cry or cling closer to you when a stranger comes too close or whenever someone she does not know looks her directly in the eyes.
There are many ways that you can help her work through these and other anxieties you can simply remove her when she is over-stimulated and softly sing and rock her until she has calmed down. It is crucial to remember that she will respond and react according to how you also handle situations. So remember to react calmly and soothingly when she is upset. Once you remove yourself from the situation, you will begin to feel her calming down. Hold her close, sing her favorite song or head for a quiet room where you can be alone with her.
Peek-a-boo and hide-and-seek games play a significant role in ths stage of her life because they address object permanence. Object permanence simply means when you are not with her you are not permanently gone, but only temporarily out of her vision. Begin by putting a short distance between yourself and Baby. Increase the distance as she becomes more comfortable. Remember though, keep a happy face and play the game only if she is a willing and happy participant. The game can have a negative effect if she is not up to it.

Nor does it have anything to do with Brain Building. And who is this person? What are her qualifications?

Interesting article, but the title should be changed. It is not helpful in regards to giving examples of activities and games.

This article was interesting and informative. Peek a boo and hide and seek are activities mentioned. What did you want the writer to suggest? Basket weaving?
