Allergies and Pregnancy
Natural Remedies for Pregnant Women
By Teri Brown
Dr. London explains that tomatoes are high in lycopene and synergistic compounds such as phytoene and phytofluene. Together, the complex in tomatoes can ward off allergy symptoms. It is safe to take a lycopene natural tomato complex while pregnant or nursing. Tomato sauces and pastes should be used liberally. "In fact, tomato products work even better than raw tomatoes," says Dr. London.
Pregnant women also can try the following non-drug options for allergy relief:
- Saline nasal sprays
- Nasal irrigation
- Humidifier use
- Mustard or herb plasters
Be sure to drink plenty of fluids during the onset of allergies, adds Dr. London. Air purifiers in the home also are helpful in combating allergies, as they help rid the home of air-born molds, toxins and impurities.
Although allergies and their symptoms can't be completely eradicated, the discomfort level of the symptoms can be lessened for the pregnant woman, both naturally and simply.
