At Montreal's Olympic Park, take the funicular-type elevator to the top of the world's tallest inclined tower for a view of the city. Next door visit the Biodome. Totally enclosed, the Biodome is a natural history/museum/zoo that houses the plants and animals of four ecosystems including the tropical rainforest and the polar world.

The Montreal Botanical Gardens is a great place to let the kids roam. The greenhouses and whimsical themed gardens are fantastic, and the kids will love the koi ponds in the Chinese Garden. On the grounds of the Botanical Garden is also the Insectarium, a paradise for young bug enthusiasts. Visit www.rio.gouv.qc.ca for more information.

Kid Cuisine

Expand your kid's culinary horizons at Marche Movenpick. Wander through the food stations of this world food market restaurant chain. You pick and pay for what you like, and the food is prepared to your order, perfect for families with kids who would rather graze than dine.

For families who want to try an authentic bistro dining experience, Restaurant Papillion (85 St. Paul E.) in Old Montreal is used to catering to families.

And don't forget to partake in a daily ice cream break. Afternoon ice cream cones – "de rigueur" when on vacation – are typically $1 in Montreal. One of the best things about traveling to Canada with the family is that you can actually afford to indulge your kids.
